For the average person, the day to day is tedious and monotonous. For a Transformer, it's a race against time. There's never enough time in the day, and some Transformers know this better than most. The Autobots need to protect their world from Decepticons at all costs while maintaining alliances with Earth factions who don't always understand their needs or trust them on principle alone. Transformers: Age of Extinction is a 2014 American science fiction film directed by Michael Bay and based on the Transformers franchise. It is the fourth installment of the live-action Transformers film series and stars Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor and Sophia Myles. The film takes place four years after the events of Dark of the Moon, when humanity knows that Autobots and Decepticons once coexisted with them on Earth. Optimus Prime plans to leave Earth, when a formable enemy threatens humanity in order to retrieve an artifact that would be used to restore Cybertron. Transformers: Age of Extinction is the first film in the live-action Transformers series that is not an adaptation of the original 1980s cartoon, nor based on a particular comic book storyline. The previous films are set four years after this film. The Wahlberg/Turteltaub project, titled Transformers One, was scheduled to be released on June 15, 2014. The release date was later moved back two weeks to June 27, 2014. For unknown reasons, the film was renamed Transformers: Age of Extinction during production. It is also Bay's first time working for a non-Paramount/Viacom company since 2002's Bad Boys II (which he left under amicable terms). The film was released in the U.S. on June 27, 2014 in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D cinemas, and became the number-one weekend grossing film at the domestic box office with a gross of $96.7 million, surpassing The Amazing Spider-Man 2's previous record of $91 million set at the same time period. It also broke The Amazing Spider-Man 2's record of the highest opening weekend for a Transformers film. Stuart Wilson from IGN stated that "While there are a few good moments peppered through Age of Extinction...it's a mind-numbing slog to get all the way through it... Even with a few inspired new Autobots and a touch of mystery in the form of an ancient Transformer, Age of Extinction is a sequel that's every bit as lazy, cash-grabby and forgettable as its title." Matt Prigge from Metro Weekly gave the movie a 2 out of 5 stars stating that "for every moment in the film when something cool happens, there are two when it all falls apart. [...] Bay's insistence on making this installment both gratuitously violent and incessantly boring leads to an experience even more numbing than when Optimus Prime had his mind downloaded into a truck." In April 2014, it was revealed that Paramount registered three domain names for the Transformers franchise: TransformersOneMovie. cfa1e77820
